What is Interact?
The MHS Interact Club is part of Rotary International's youth service program, sponsored by the Muskegon Rotary Club. Interact gives high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills while making a meaningful impact in their community and around the world.
Our Mission
Following Rotary's vision for peace through service, our club focuses on addressing critical community needs in nine key areas, including access to health resources, educational opportunities, environmental stewardship, and maternal/infant health. We believe that by working together to serve others, we build stronger communities and promote understanding across cultures.
What We Do
Local Service Projects:
- Monthly service at the Supper House in Muskegon Heights
- Annual drives and distributions with the Homeless Continuum of Care at United Way
- Red Cross blood drives
- Environmental projects like our work on the microforest near Marquette and US31
- Participation in Irish Fest, MDOT highway cleanups, and county parks projects
International Impact:
- Annual El Salvador service trips over spring break to build hurricane-proof concrete homes alongside families in need
- Support for Rotary's 30+ year partnership with the Rotary Club in Talnique, El Salvador
Leadership Development:
- Elected student officers and executive committee
- Life Leadership Conference at FSU each June for selected members
- Youth Exchange Program opportunities (we've had three consecutive Big Red students travel to Brazil!)
Who Can Join?
The Interact Club welcomes students with any academic record who are interested in leadership development, community service, and making connections within our community. No previous experience is required – just a willingness to serve and learn.
When We Meet
We typically meet every other Friday after school in the cafeteria's dining room.
