Muskegon Public Schools Mission Statement

  1. Muskegon Public Schools lives in an inclusive climate that embraces diverse thinkers, perspectives, cultures and abilities which allows for equitable opportunity for all students.
     
  2. Muskegon Public Schools supports students to develop an awareness of themselves, their culture and community to inform their academic and life goals.
     
  3. Muskegon Public Schools offers a preK-12 education for all students to enhance their innate talents to be creative cognitive thinkers and problem solvers that will allow them to act with thoughtfulness and humanity.
     
  4. Muskegon Public Schools engages all students to become independent, problem solving, critical thinkers that are contributing community members with the resilience to be lifelong learners.

Goal #1: Instructional Improvement

  • Nurture a positive culture within and about Muskegon Public Schools by visibility and awareness of program and services.
  • Teacher Collaborative Time will be used to guide each other in the ongoing quest of instructional improvement at scale in the building.
  • Create a culture of shared ownership for the well-being and achievement of each student.
  • Implement and support a vision of high-quality, subject-specific instruction.

Goal #2: Student Support

  • Nurture a positive culture within and about Muskegon Public Schools by visibility and awareness of program and services.
  • Create a system of support to meet the non-academic needs of each child
  • Utilize the problem-solving and performance management driver systems to monitor the installation and impact of the MPS student support district system
  • Identify existing and potential community partners whose work aligns to and strengthens the MPS Student Support Network

Goal #3: Communications

  • Nurture a positive culture within and about Muskegon Public Schools by visibility and awareness of program and services.
  • Develop a plan to ensure effective internal communication providing clear expectations of content, frequency, intended audience, and method of communications.

  • Establish a process for feedback that invites participation from all stakeholder groups and can be used to inform district policies and procedures.

Goal #4: Talent Management

  • Nurture a positive culture within and about Muskegon Public Schools by visibility and awareness of program and services.
  • Create a strategic placement plan that is used to assign teachers, leaders, and other administrators in specific assignments within the district that effectively matches adult capacity with student need.
  • Create a recruitment plan to attract high-quality potential teachers, leaders, and other administrators from outside the district for strategic placement that effectively matches adult capacity with student need.
  • Create an effective hiring process that strategically selects and hires staff in a way that increases the district’s inventory of Blueprint capacity and that places these new hires within the district to effectively match adult capacity with student need.
  • Create a retainment plan with effective incentive and support systems to retain skilled teachers, leaders, and other administrators so the district can effectively maintain and match adult capacity with student needs.
  • Create and implement an onboarding process for teachers and leaders.

Goal #5: Operations

  • Nurture a positive culture within and about Muskegon Public Schools by visibility and awareness of program and services.
  • Facilitate the creation and scope of bond proposal for May of 2020.
  • Creation of a preventive maintenance schedule for each building in the district.
  • Develop a long term plan that considers energy conservation, maintenance level and uniformity
