  • Muskegon Middle School – Google Expeditions:

Google Expeditions is a free app for Android or iOS devices – which allows a teacher (or student) to lead a guided tour others can follow. It is designed to work best with a leader on a tablet (iOS or Android) and participants following on a smartphone placed into a Google Cardboard VR headset. There are over 450 Expeditions and more added each week. Each expedition includes multiple 360° scenes and a set of guiding questions. Most tours are created by Google content partners, however, Google has approved the creation of a virtual tour by middle school students from Muskegon Public Schools. The tour will tell the life of a “submariner” aboard the USS Silversides submarine. 360° photos taken with a special camera will create the foundation for the story, showcasing 8 separate scenes on the submarine. Students are working with museum staff to tell the story of the crew, create questions for each scene, and select historic photos.  Mr. Kamysek and Mr. Hector at Muskegon Middle School are lead teachers for this project.  The completed tour will go to Google for approval with anticipation of the tour being added by the end of May.

A special thank you to Andy Mann, MAISD Instructional Technology Consultant who is guiding our teachers and students through the project.

  • New Special Education Director Announced:

Dr. Christine Robertson has been hired by Muskegon Public Schools as the new Director of Education. She takes over the role previously held by Mr. Justin Jennings as he is the newly appointed Superintendent.  Christine has been a devout and diligent advocate for students, especially individuals with disabilities. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, she began providing services to students in community mental health and youth treatment facilities. She then returned to graduate school and earned a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and a Specialist Degree in School Psychology. Christine worked in the field of school psychology for over a decade at Allegan Public Schools, Allegan ISD, and Northview Public Schools providing academic and behavioral assessment and intervention across all grade levels. An interest in systems-level intervention work motivated her to pursue leadership opportunities. She accepted an administrative position with the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District as a service area director proving special education technical assistance to multiple local school districts for three years. A family relocation brought Christine back to West Michigan where she has been a special education administrator for Grand Rapids Public Schools implementing a multi-tiered system of support in early childhood education. In addition, the proximity to Western Michigan University allowed her to complete her Doctorate Degree in Education with an emphasis in special education leadership in December of 2016. She would like to continue to bring a focus of student centered, data based processes to individualize and intensify interventions for students that need supports to her work at Muskegon Public Schools.

  • Muskegon Launches New Website:

Muskegon Public Schools is pleased to launch a new website for 2017 and beyond. Muskegon Public Schools’ launch was a team effort with the superintendent and technology departments leading the way.  MPS worked closely with Revel, a local based Muskegon company to plan, produce, and launch the website.   New content will be continuously added as we continue to develop and streamline our website’s content.
